Friday, September 5th @ Hammond Hall, Winter Harbor, ME

Join the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine as they present a revue of works by the noted duo.

Soloists include Roland Dube, Carl Faulstick, Sonia Berghoff, Christien Breau, Nayeli Monahan, Miranda Snyder, Theo Dumas and Dan Clement with pianist Sasha Beresovsky.

The performance will include excerpts from noted works such as Pirates of Penzance, HMS Pinafore, Iolanthe and many more. Famous excerpts will include, “he is an Englishman” and “Hail poetry.” Lesser known favorites will also make and appearance such as “We’re called Gondolieri” from Gondoliers as well as two scenes from the little know operetta The Grand Duke.

Founded in 1976 by Harris Strong and Elizabeth “Betty” Beatty, two friends mad for Gilbert & Sullivan, the society has produced fully staged productions since it’s inception. The society was originally founded as the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Hancock County, later changed to the G&S Society of Maine to include performances and performers from beyond the county. Following the renovation of the Grand Auditorium by another Harris Strong organization, Hancock County Auditorium Associates, the Gilbert and Sullivan Society decided to produce their first performance in that location. The new company performed The Gondoliers in early 1977. That show became the first in an uninterrupted series of full-on productions spanning more than four decades.

A Quick Clarification

Because there are several arts organizations in our region, it’s easy for supporters to assume we are all part of the same entity. Winter Harbor Music is a completely separate nonprofit with its own staff, budget, and programming.

We rely on our own fundraising to sustain our work each season. When you give through this page, your donation supports Winter Harbor Music exclusively.
